A proper Thank You to Romantic Country magazine

March 26, 2010

RC_Cover A wonderful end to a beautiful week! I mentioned some time ago that the editor of Romantic Country contacted me about this time last year with a proposal to shoot my home for an upcoming issue! I was flattered, honored, crazy nervous and oh so excited. The day was last June and it was a long one. The talented and extremely funny Mark Lohman and the equally talented cute as a button stylist Sunday Hendrickson arrived at 9:00am sharp. We wrapped at around 7:00pm we were exhausted, but so pleased how everything turned out.

I scanned the article for you to check out in case you don’t see these magazines in your area.

RC_p57 RC_p58 RC_p59 RC_p60 RC_p61 RC_p62 A very huge thank you to Fifi O’Neill the editor of Romantic Country for including my talents in your beautiful magazine and last but certainly not least thank you to  Kim McCole for putting my words on the pages in such a perfect way. It is me and that feels really good!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Thanks to the wonderful and marvelous Fifi I have some great photos to share of one of my newest boxes. The "French Couture Sparkle Box" I thought it deserved a fancy name!IMG_6524 IMG_6519 IMG_6520

Risotto made easy…and it is delicious!

March 10, 2010

If you are a lover of Risotto like I am, then this is a recipe for you to try. The creamy texture is produced by using traditional Arborio rice. This creamy texture is what I find the most delicious but, I rarely make it because of the constant stirring it requires. Multi-tasking in the kitchen does not come naturally to me. So here is an easy and super yummy alternative that I just tried the other night.

(Photo taken from Southern Living)

Prep Time: 20 minutes
Other Time: 40 minutes
Yield: Makes 6 servings

  • 2  tablespoons  butter
  • 2 1/2  cups  chicken broth
  • 1  cup  uncooked Arborio rice (short-grain)
  • 1/2  small onion, diced
  • 1/2  teaspoon  salt
  • 2  cups  chopped deli-roasted chicken
  • 1  (8-oz.) package fresh mozzarella cheese, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1  cup  cherry or grape tomatoes, halved
  • 1/4  cup  shredded fresh basil

1. Preheat oven to 400°. Place butter in a 13- x 9-inch baking dish; bake 5 minutes or until melted. Stir in broth and next 3 ingredients.

2. Bake, covered, at 400° for 35 minutes. Remove from oven. Fluff rice with a fork. Stir in chicken, mozzarella, and tomatoes; sprinkle with shredded basil. Serve immediately.

Since I like to tweak recipes a little from time to time I thought up different pairings you could do after you get you risotto in the oven.

Something like:

1. Scallops mixed with capers and Meyer lemon zest.

2. Spring vegetables (mushrooms, asparagus, spinach, tarragon and a little goat cheese.

3. Chicken, spinach, mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes and pine nuts.

I hope you love this as much as my family did!

The studio calls

March 3, 2010

I have finished the dreaded job of getting the taxes ready for our accountant, organized my office and finally tackled my fabric samples. Fabrics are in a strange way like art to me. They inspire so much creativity, but keeping them organized is no easy feat! When I’m sleeping they multiply too.

As a result of all studio as been neglected and when that happens my soul becomes a bit out of balance as well. So I have been back at it with wedding boxes.

Some of these I have re-created although they are still original one~of~a~kind pieces. 556 546 557

Please contact me if you would like to purchase any of these or would like a special one created just for you.

{Wedding cones are next on my list! I was contacted some time ago about designing these to attach to the back of chairs at the ceremony.}

Awwww Kmart

March 1, 2010

Is it just me or do most people think stylish and Kmart are not soul sisters. Don’t get me wrong I do shop there …but not for home accessories and furniture. So was I surprised when I saw this:

It was featured in the latest issue of House Beautiful among several other "Hot List" items.. I decided this was something that would work in a variety of situations and so I was on the hunt to hopefully find it in my local very small Kmart. Oh and the price? 90.00 on sale now for 69.99. Which was also surprising if it looked as good in person as it did on the page.

It did.CIMG1157 CIMG1158

The top is mirrored which is kind of cool. It adds a chic sort of Palm Beach kinda look, but,  I have decided that I am going to cut a piece of decorative paper to fit on top of the mirror and then cover it with a  1/4" Plexiglas panel. Then I use it as a serving piece for a spring party I will host soon.

So I guess you may find me now trolling the Kmart aisles a little more frequently!

Hope your week is filled with a few surprises too!
